According to Dr. Jagat Ram, director at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh, children have developed antibodies, thus making them immune from the onslaught of the 3rd wave of COVID-19 in India. While this may sound as a huge relief to everyone, there is nothing to cheer about. Considering that pediatric facilities are otherwise poor, there are wild chances of some children being affected.

Avigna Diagnostics is still in the process of acquiring the latest information related to the viral effects on children. As a precautionary COVID-19 test for children in Hyderabad we choose to inform parents about the latest news. This information is handy as some schools plan to open up and let children into the classrooms.

The Lancet COVID-19 Commission India Task Force has been monitoring the situation with a group of special paediatricians

Current Scenario: No Substantial Evidence

Data released in the month of June showed that mortality rate of hospitalized kids due to COVID-19 was 2.4%. The kids were all below the age of 10 years. Even out of these cases, 40% died due to comorbidities.  The Lancet COVID-19 Commission India Task Force has been monitoring the situation with a group of special pediatricians. They are putting the spotlight on COVID-19 Third Wave affecting children in the next few months. It is generally known that parents are not keen on sending their children to school out of fear. The medical cases that may arise are asymptomatic in nature. The same is the case of all children globally. We can safely say:

  • Mild symptoms are prevalent due to the infection.
  • Cases of fever and respiratory symptoms are common.
  • Few children have gastro-intestinal issues with vomiting and diarrhea.
  • Even if some kids are affected they have a lesser mortality rate compared to adults.

Based on this data only across different Indian cities that is no evidence that children will be affected. The only significant data released showed that obese teens stood a chance of longer stay in the hospital.

3rd Wave Scare

National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), set up on the directions of the Home Ministry, has already warned about the peaking of the 3rd wave. As a precautionary measure, the pediatric facilities have been under the scanner, just in case COVID-19 strikes the young population. Currently, the doctors, staff ambulances and ventilators are at a shortage. Whether it is due to COVID-19 or other issues, all pediatric facilities require an upgrade.

Children can continue to wear masks and follow all other protocols to keep themselves safe

No Vaccines for Children

Children have developed antibodies as the virus infection has surged. Dr. Jagat Ram is confident that children will continue to remain immune to the pandemic. Yes, children can continue to wear masks and follow all other protocols to keep themselves from being harmed. In fact, they can also return to school safely.

The WHO has already Congratulated India on Crossing the 75 crore mark of Vaccinations on September 13, 2021.

Avigna Diagnostics, a COVID-19 test for children in Hyderabad continues to disseminate authentic information that may help people. We also support communication and media support to reduce panic and anxiety related to COVID-19 in relation to children.
